Things To Do in Milan

Milan is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, providing all sorts of activities from high-end shopping to tours of the magnificent cathedrals. It’s not every day that we find ourselves in the gorgeous cities of Europe and seeing as you arrive and leave from Milan on your Italian ski trip, we highly recommend exploring it for a few days before or after your ski week!

First and foremost, you simply cannot go to Milan and not visit the Milan Cathedral  in the famous Piazza del Duomo. This incredible gothic-style cathedral dates way back to the 14th Century, although wasn’t finished being built until the mid-1900s. Adorned with numerous towers, statues and stained-glass artwork, this fantastic display of architecture and decoration is a monumental to the city of Milan and has to be on your to-do list when visiting!

Next, we highly recommend a visit to the Grand Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II – one of the fanciest shopping malls in all of Europe! At a first glance, the colossal interior and gorgeous glass ceiling portray what looks more like grand castle! But no, it is in fact a mall, full of high-end stores and incredible architecture! If you like shopping then this is right up your alley!

If shopping isn’t really your thing, a trip to the Leonardo da Vinci Museum will leave you full of knowledge and interest! This museum contains many of his great scholarly works and inventions and quenches the thirst of any traveller interested in science, technology and invention! Who wouldn’t be interested in the groundbreaking technology that changed the world at that time?

If you’re more of a sports person, a trip to the AC Milan San Siro Stadium  is what you need. One of the largest stadiums in Europe, San Siro was a key venue in World Cup 34 and World Cup 90!

You might find yourself coming across a beautiful canal, lined with stores and restaurants and wonder whether you’re in Venice! But no, one of Milan’s major canals called Naviglio Grande is in the centre of the city, and makes a wonderful spot for walking and exploring. Grab a meal or drink and soak up these views that are rarely mentioned in other tour guides!

If you’re visiting with a big family or group of friends, and no one can really agree on what to do, a really great and inclusive idea is to take a Hop-on Hop-off Bus Tour , that takes you pretty much everywhere! This is one of the easiest ways to see big cities, and you gain valuable insight along the way. Sitting at the top of a double-decker bus gives you great views as you drive through Milan, which you wouldn’t be able to get from a taxi or on foot! With these kinds of tours, you can get off at whichever points interest you, and then just grab the next bus that comes around. There are designated drop-off and pick-up points around the city, so when you do get off and see the wonderful sights, all you need to do is make sure you follow the bus schedule and catch the next ride!

All in all, Milan is full of beautiful buildings, amazing architecture, interesting museums and stadiums and a whole lot of authentic restaurants to dine at. It’s a good idea to consider a night or two in this wonderful city, after all, how often are you in Europe with the ability to explore such stunning areas? We advise you to sieze the day, and see as much as you can! From personal experience, you’ll never find yourself wishing you hadn’t travelled to so many interesting places.

Happy Planning!
